This is the first installment of a two-part documentary covering the historic 50th Anniversary Conference of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, better known as SNCC. The conference was held April 15-18 in Raleigh, NC, half century after their founding conference at Shaw University. The men and women, whose courageous action as college students ignited the southern freedom struggle, reassembled at Shaw for remembrance and renewal.
Producer Chris Moore-Backman was there to capture the event’s incredible array of speakers and music, with which he blends commentary and historical background.

Part One of “SNCC 50 Years Later” features highlights from speeches and talks delivered by freedom struggle veterans Julian Bond and Vincent Harding, as well as author/historians Clayborne Carson and Taylor Branch, each of whom help illustrate the profound and lasting impact of SNCC on American society.
The documentary’s soundtrack is comprised of live recordings of the spirituals and freedom songs that punctuated the conference.
(Part Two of “SNCC 50 Years Later” is scheduled to air Thursday, August 12.)
