Highlander is people! Highlander is you! Highlander is 75 years of work for justice in Appalachia and the South!
The school started by Myles Horton and Don West in 1932 in eastern Tennessee has helped organize Coal Miners, Sharecroppers, Co-ops, then in 1954 began training leaders of the Civil Rights Movement including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. Tdoay the School continues to fight for justice and equality in the South and has shifted it's focus to Immigration and Lesbian Gay Bi-sexual and Transgender issues.
Come join us for Highlander's 75th Anniversary Celebration on August 31-September 2, 2007. Celebrate Highlander’s work of yesterday, today and tomorrow. See old friends and meet new ones. Talk about organizing in the South. Sing, dance, laugh, eat, and strategize where we all go from here in the next stage of the fight for democracy and justice.
